The next national hui to discuss the reopening of TIPENE has been confirmed for Gisborne this weekend.
Saturday 15 December
1:00pm - 3:00pm
Te Tini o Porou, 75 Huxley Road, Kaiti, Gisborne
The hui will be facilitated by Nathan Durie, a Palmerston North based Principal and educator. Mr Durie will describe the proposed model for the new school and respond to any questions from whanau.
“We have received a warm response during our hui so far. Parents are looking for opportunities for their tamariki and are well aware of the crisis in the education of Māori boys” Mr Durie says.
“We have prepared an educational option which is designed to deliver academic excellence and through the utilisation of culture and high-performance sport. This builds on the historical profile of TIPENE as well as the contemporary expectations of our whanau.”
The Reopening Committee will continue to travel around New Zealand in the new year engaging with local communities about the new school.
Four hui have been held so far, in Wellington, Whakatane, Manukau and Hamilton. Updates will be made available here.
